BlankinshipWelcome! I am a scholar, poet, critic, and translator. As assistant professor at Brigham Young University, I teach Arabic language and literature, Islam, and the Qur’an. My research is about classical Arabic literature. Currently I am writing a book called Counted Among the Dead on the blind author al-Ma`arri and ascetic poetry (zuhdiyyat). My work has been supported by the Fulbright-Hays Program, the American Institute for Maghrib Studies, the Danish Independent Research Fund (DFF), University of Southern Denmark, and the University of Utah. In addition to academic journals, my writing has appeared in The Atlantic, The Los Angeles Review of Books, The Times Literary Supplement, The Spectator, RealClearBooks, and more.
